So this "in-place upgrade" really just swaps out whatever possibly corrupt old Windows version you currently have and swaps in a totally new and clean brand new latest version of Win10 with its 100% full integrity, at the same time offering you the further option of retaining all of your currently installed programs and data and customizations or perhaps just wiping out everything and resetting everything back to zero for a cold fresh install of Win10 at the latest version. You can either perform a complete from-scratch brand new clean Win10 install or optionally you can retain all of your existing currently installed 3rd-party apps and data along with all Windows desktop customizations. This will perform what is known as an "in-place upgrade" which allows you to effectively refresh whatever running Windows system you are currently running with a brand new latest version of Win10. Instead, you can can use that ISO file directly from wherever you saved it, by MOUNT'ing it (to a virtual DVD drive, in-memory) and then from the in-memory virtual DVD drive RUN the SETUP.EXE in the root of that virtual drive. You might not even have an optical drive on your machine! Within that second option (2) if you choose to download the ISO you don't actually have to create a true DVD in order to use the ISO file.

(2) create bootable installation media (USB flash drive, or DVD from ISO file) you can then use later to install a new copy of Windows 10, perform a totally from-scratch clean installation, or just reinstall a fresh current Windows 10 right over an existing Win10 system again while optionally retaining all currently installed application programs and customizations.

(1) "upgrade this PC now" to the latest version of Win10, including the option to retain all currently installed application programs and customizations, After you download it and run it, it will launch and offer either of TWO options, so that you can then either: This correct page provides a button to initiate the download of the media creation EXE (currently named "MediaCreationTool21H1.exe" as was shown directly above in the previous post). That page has nothing to do with what is the proper correct MS page for downloading and creating the latest version Win10 installation media.

Not sure why_the_F MS not giving a proper download link for the tool. I had checked windows download pages up and down, but cannot find the USB creator tool.
